The second season of Netflix’s small town romance Virgin River heightened the stakes in spectacular fashion with last year’s stunning season finale. In the closing moments, Jack Sheridan (played by Martin Henderson) was left bleeding from a severe gunshot wound, leaving fans with plenty of time to work out who the culprit could be.
Fans of Netflix’s breakout romance Virgin River have outlined a new theory to explain why Jack Sheridan was shot in last year’s shocking season finale.
In the closing moments of episode ten, ‘Blown Away’, Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) discovered Jack bleeding from a shot to his abdomen at the back of his bar.
Although the pair had just entered the early stages of their long awaited romance, they could be spending much of their first days as a couple in the hospital as Jack recovers.
The former marine is expected to pull through to return for a third season, but it’s still a mystery who pulled the trigger.

Now, a recent theory proposed by Oprah Mag has suggested a newcomer to the town could be revealed as the culprit next season.
They claimed Vince (Ian Tracey), an investigator for Miami PD and the twin brother of Wes (Steve Bacic) could have a prominent role as Jack’s aggressor in Virgin River season three.
Wes, the abusive ex-husband of Paige (Lexa Doig), tracked down his former partner in season two to cause more trauma.
When Paige accidentally kills Wes during a violent scuffle on top of the stairs, she enlists the help of Jack’s colleague John ‘Preacher’ Middleton (Colin Lawrence) to help cover it up.
If Preacher wasn’t there at the time of the shooting, Vince may have mistaken him for Jack, his close friend from their days as marines.
Alternatively, Jack may have ascertained Vince’s plans to take down his friend for his part in covering up Wes’s murder, and stepped in to try and stop him.
Not wanting to kill an innocent bystander to his plan for vengeance, Vince could have accidentally shot Jack in the stomach in the ensuing fight.
As production is currently underway on season three, eager fans are hoping they’ll finally get some answers before the end of the year.
Meanwhile, Virgin River’s co-lead Martin Henderson has since joked that he already knows the identity of Jack’s shooter.
Henderson told TVLine: “I always joke that it’s most likely Charmaine. It does pop into your mind.”
He also repeated the theory when he spoke to ETOnline, saying: “It’s definitely Charmaine. I mean, do the math. I’m convinced.”
Virgin River certainly upped the ante with several twists blowing fans away in the latest season, making its third instalment one of Netflix’s most highly anticipated series for 2021.
Virgin River season 2 is available to stream on Netflix.
