Tesco, Asda, Aldi and Lidl: Latest shopping rules customers must follow in stores

“Whilst we always urge customers to use the tongs provided in our bakery, as a temporary measure, you’ll also notice there are disposable gloves for you to use in order to bag loose items yourself, safely,” a statement explained.

“We’re continuing to monitor this area of our store, and will change the way we’re doing things if necessary.”

Those visiting branches are urged to maintain social distancing and only touch what they intend to buy.

Many Aldi stores also now have a traffic light system which monitors how many people can enter the store at one time.

Inside branches, customers can find sanitising stations for trolleys and baskets.

Floor markings have been put in place to help shoppers keep a safe distance from each other.

A statement on Aldi website said: “We have placed markers on the floors of our checkouts to ensure a safe distance between customers.

“We are installing Perspex screens around all of our till points to protect colleagues and customers.”
