Surge testing map: South African Covid variant sparks MORE urgent tests – full area list

“From Thursday 15 April we will start testing people for this variant in specific postcode areas affected in N3 or those who shop on the local high street.”

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) said some 44 confirmed cases of the variant have been found in Lambeth and Wandsworth, with a further 30 probable cases identified.

Earlier this week, Dr Kevin Fenton, Regional Director, PHE London and Regional Director of Public Health, NHS London, urged people in Lambeth, Wandsworth and Southwark to take part in the surge testing being rolled out.

Dr Fenton said: “The cluster of cases in parts of South London – predominantly the Lambeth and Wandsworth areas but also in Southwark – of the variant first identified in South Africa is significant.
