Steph McGovern reacts after viewer accuses BBC of 'dumbing down' show in host complaint

Steph McGovern, who fronts her self-titled Channel 4 show Packed Lunch, returned to the BBC to present the Friday night comedy panel show Have I Got News For You. This is not the small-screen star’s first time fronting the show, as the mum-of-one revealed she has hosted the programme a total of seven times.

The 38-year-old has since taken to the micro-blogging site and fired back at a social media user who accused the BBC programme of “dumbing down”.

It comes after Steph shared her delight at a return to take the reins and present the panel show.

In view of her 413,000 followers, the Channel 4 presenter penned: “Tonight I’m hosting Have I Got News For You on @BBCOne at 9pm.

“I can’t believe it’s my 7th time in the host’s chair! I love doing it, not least because of the fab team I get to work with who put the show together. #HIGNFY.”

The Steph’s Packed Lunch presenter shared a series of snaps of herself from the episode, during which she wore a blue sky-inspired jumper covered in a white cloud print.

Meanwhile, the Channel 4 presenter hinted at a possible reunion with her former BBC Breakfast co-star Carol Kirkwood.

Taking to Twitter, Steph shared a gift she received from her ex-colleague and pal and revealed it was the first look at the weather forecaster’s new book titled Under a Greek Moon.

Steph tweeted: “So proud of my very talented mate @carolkirkwood,” accompanied with a photo of her reading the novel.

A fan wrote: “You will have to get Carol on your show.”

Steph replied: “Definitely.”
