Queen facing ‘pressure’ to move from Windsor says Myers

An overwhelming amount of people who took part in the survey believe the Queen should not forgive Meghan and Harry following their interview with Oprah. In the online poll carried out by Express.co.uk, 17,328 people, a whopping 96 percent, answered no to the question “should the Queen forgive Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for Oprah claims”.

Only 598 people (4 percent) replied yes, while 133 said they didn’t know.

The poll was carried out between May 2 at 10.02am and May 3 at 10.56am and had a total of 18,059 respondents.

Many Express.co.uk readers shared their views on the issue, with one commenting: “Her Majesty may ALWAYS love him; but forgive him, I certainly wouldn’t know. The public, on the other hand will most likely NEVER forgive him. Americans think he is lost in LALA Land.”

Another said: “Forgiveness only comes with remorse. Neither of them has apologised, so forgiveness is not appropriate.”

Some of the those who said the Queen should not forgive the Sussexes in the wake of their tell-all interview believe Prince Harry and Meghan have lost the trust of their family.

One Express.co.uk reader commented claiming: “NO NO NO NO forgive them and they will be on chat shows for ever more. They can never be trusted again.”

Another said: “There are things you can forgive and some things are unforgivable, broken trust is not something you take another chance on.

“I will never forgive them I will never trust them from their own actions I can only ever look at them with disgust and I am not even involved.”

Others argued Prince Harry and Meghan should be stripped of their titles, bestowed upon them as a wedding gift by the Queen on their wedding day.

One reader said: “NO and take their titles to draw a line under it”.

Another added: “NO! They need to have their titles taken away. She [the Queen] can do whatever she likes from a family perspective, but they need to be formerly removed from the official Royal Family!”

Similarly, other people who took part in the online poll believe the forgiveness the Queen may show as a grandmother should not be confused with her forgiveness as head of state.

One commented saying: “Too raw too soon, there are two family’s here, Harry is a son, brother, grandson, nephew etc in a family that will always be and as such I think this is personal family business.

“The ‘royal family’ is another matter they are there to serve their public, Harry should no longer be a prince duke etc he isn’t serving anymore.

“I do hope that on a personal level they eventually unite but the betrayal on the world stage will be hard to forgive.”

Finally, one noted the Queen will unlikely speak publicly about her relationship with the Sussexes, no matter whether and how it evolves.

The reader said: “If she wishes to forgive him, she will do so in her quiet, unassuming way. She will not make a public issue out of it.

“That is and never has been her way of doing things. I’d say it’s none of the public’s business if she forgives him or not. Personally, I’d tell them to take a flying leap.”

During their interview with Oprah, which aired in the US on March 7 and in the UK on March 8 on ITV, Meghan and Harry said they left the Firm as working royals because of a lack of understanding and support.

The Duchess also said she was suicidal during her first pregnancy and claimed she was not helped by the palace despite asking for support.

Moreover, she said there were “concerns” over “how dark” the skin of her son would be while she was expecting Archie.

Prince Harry, on the other hand, opened up on his relationship with Charles and William, saying he felt “let down” by his father and was on a different path than his brother.

However, both Meghan and Harry spoke highly about the Queen, with the Duchess saying the monarch had always been “wonderful” to her and the Duke saying he shares a good relationship and understanding with his grandmother.

In a brief statement issued by the Queen two days after the Oprah interview first aired in the US, the monarch clearly and publicly expressed her continuous affection for Meghan, Harry and Archie.

The Queen said she was “saddened to learn the full extent” of how challenging the past years had been for the Sussexes and expressed her concern over the issues they raised, in particular the one of racism, informing the public they will be addressed privately by the family.

She added: “Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

Prince Harry and the Queen met first time face-to-face for more than 12 months in April, when the Duke returned to the UK for the funeral of Prince Philip.

According to Harper’s Bazaar, the Queen and her grandson held at least two meetings over the Duke’s nine-day stay in the UK.
