Queen of the South: Alice Braga reveals real reason she took the role 'Absolutely love it'

Both the Spanish and English-language series are based on the book of the same name by popular Spanish author Arturo Pérez-Reverte, published in 2002.

Much like the television adaptations, the novel follows Teresa Mendoza, a Mexican-born woman born into near-poverty who begins a new life as the leader of a drug-trafficking cartel.

Pérez-Reverte’s book became a smash hit in Spain, and has since become a favourite of TV star Alice Braga.

During a live conversation with fans on her personal YouTube page, Braga revealed her love for the novel.
