The Princess of Wales used to set trends in the fields of fashion and style, becoming one of the 20th Century’s most prominent figures. However, it was thanks to her personal hairstylist that the royal found her most celebrated haircut.
Speaking to British Vogue, Sam Knight recounted his and Diana’s first meeting at a photoshoot for the renowned magazine.
Mr Knight said: “The first time I met the Princess of Wales was on a shoot.
“This leggy blonde comes bouncing up the stairs, smiled and made us all melt, and it was Princess Diana.”
When it came to styling her hair, Mr Knight opted for creating an impromptu look.
He added: “I made it look short under the tiara — I faked it a bit.”
According to Mr Knight, after the photoshoot Diana asked Mr Knight for his opinion about her hair and how he would cut it.
He said: “I said, ‘I would cut it all off and just start again’.
“It was the beginning of the ’90s and it was at the time that I was doing lots of shows and covers and a lot of the girls had short hair, and we were moving from the big frou-frou ’80s into the sharp, more androgynous, business chic of the ’90s.”
