Man Utd set to take out huge loan to fund Jadon Sancho transfer as Ed Woodward makes call

Manchester United are reportedly set to take out a £135million loan to fund their move for Jadon Sancho this summer as Ed Woodward prepares to break the club’s transfer record to capture Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top target.

United’s revenue streams have been hit hard by the coronavirus and senior officials made it known they would not spend more than £50m on Sancho.

Dortmund value the 20-year-old at £115m and will not budge from that figure given they are under no pressure to sell.

Sancho wants to return to the Premier League, three years after he left Manchester City, but has two years remaining on his contract.

Woodward was preparing to play the long game and hoped the Bundesliga side would drop their asking price.

The Red Devils chief used a similar tactic with Harry Maguire last summer but Leicester still held out for the full £80m.

It seems Woodward may learn his lesson this time around as German publication Sport Bild claim United are set to take out a loan.

The report suggests the full £115m will be paid to Dortmund, even though the coronavirus will affect transfer fees elsewhere.

United’s debt rose to £429.1million in the first three months of 2020 which was an increase of £127.4m.

Part of that was down to the £47m signing of Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon in January.

If United do take out the loan to sign Sancho then the debt can be expected to be substantially more when the next set of accounts are released.

Spectators are still not permitted to attend Old Trafford which is a massive blow to the club’s revenue.

However, Woodward may be gambling on Sancho helping to return United to their former heights which will bring the golden riches of Champions League football.

Solskjaer will also want to invest in other areas of the squad this year if he is to try and close the gap to Liverpool and Manchester City.

Aston Villa skipper Jack Grealish is high on the Norwegian’s wishlist, as is a new defensive partner for Maguire.

But if there is to only be one new face arriving at Carrington then Solskjaer hopes it will be Sancho.
