Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is edging closer to figuring out his best possible side and as it stands, it does not include Paul Pogba. With competition for places at Old Trafford more fierce than ever before, the United boss is having to make some tough decisions in the hot-seat.

Pogba and fellow midfielder Donny van de Beek have struggled for starts in recent weeks but both were given a run out in the 5-0 win over Leipzig.

It was a ruthless performance from United, most notably in the second half, as Solskjaer flaunted his tactical prowess for the second Champions League match in a row.

He started off with a 4-3-3 formation, which became a narrow diamond midfield in the second half (4-1-2-1-2).

The tweak saw United take things to the next level as they blew Leipzig away in the final half an hour of the contest.

Fred has made his mark in the side and is now keeping the likes of Pogba and Van de Beek at bay.

The rest have been left to fight for the final spot in midfield but while United are winning, there can be no complaints from those who miss out.

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford’s importance to this side was there for all to see against Leipzig as he came off the bench to hit a memorable hat-trick.

With Edinson Cavani itching for a start, Rashford and Anthony Martial will have to stay at the top of their game to keep their place.
