Liverpool secured a slightly nervy 1-0 victory over a bright Ajax side to get their Champions League group stage off to a winning start in Amsterdam. But who impressed for the Reds and who failed to get going? Here’s a full rundown from Jurgen Klopp’s side on Wednesday evening.
Adrian – 7
Seemed much improved on the whole from the shaky performances he’s put in while deputising for Alisson.
Adrian is expected to lose his place soon when the Brazilian returns, but he’ll leave a good account for himself if he keeps performing like this.
Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6
Didn’t manage to push forward as much as he normally does and get those driven crosses in.
Pretty solid otherwise, to be fair.
Joe Gomez – 6
Looked pretty solid against a threatening Ajax attack which will give Klopp hope he can step up to the plate of playing week in, week out.
Fabinho – 8
Had some big shoes to fill playing at centre-back in place of Virgil van Dijk, and did a pretty good job on the whole.
Solid in the air and kept the defence organised, Fabinho is staking his claim to be Van Dijk’s long-term replacement.
Andy Robertson – 7
A similar story to Alexander-Arnold, but was as bright as ever on the left, bombing forward.
James Milner – 7
Another night of working like a horse from Milner to ensure Liverpool picked up all three points.
Only slight blip was a needless yellow card.
