Not only did he deliver the assist for Jones’ strike with an athletic, battling cross, but he appeared to the the x-factor the 22-year-old has been missing in recent weeks.

In the first half, Alexander-Arnold enjoyed 72 touches, at least 22 more than any other player on the pitch.

His energy was back, his football brain was working overtime, and there were even comparisons with Steven Gerrard floating about on Twitter.
