Cleaning expert and Instagram star Lynsey Crombie has shared a cheap hack for using lemons to clean. Lynsey, who has just published her third book The 15-Minute Clean, often shares her tips and hacks on Instagram with her 239,000 followers. The cleaning expert’s new book aims to make cleaning easy and fun for everyone – even those who don’t enjoy cleaning.
In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Lynsey shared how you to get hold of lemons cheaply for cleaning and how she came to use her go-to natural cleaning solutions.
Lynsey explained that she began her natural cleaning journey in a retirement home.
She said: “When I first started cleaning for other people, my first job was working in a retirement complex.
“I remember the first time I went in there, the first lady whose room I cleaned, – I had my big cleaning caddy of products with all my cloths and sponges – I remember knocking on her door and the first thing she said to me was, ‘could you leave that out there please?’.

Lynsey said she still uses cleaning products but only if they’re the “right products”.
She added: “I still use products, I love them but I love the right products.
“But it made me think about different things I could use in my home and achieve the same result and not have that bleach headache.
“I used to really suffer with bleach headaches. I always had this awful headache and I don’t get it anymore and it’s because I was using too much bleach in my house.”
After that day at work, Lynsey got home and began using lemons to clean her house.
“I remember coming home and scrubbing with a lemon and thinking ‘wow, this works’,” she said.
She added: “It just makes cleaning a bit more exciting. Spraying on your surface or getting a juicy lemon out – what are you going to prefer to do if you hate cleaning?”
However, Lynsey said she understands that buying loads of lemons may not be the cheapest way to clean your home.
Lynsey shared how you can get your hands on lemons for less money and how to make them last longer.
She said: “Lemons aren’t the cheapest things but if you go down to the supermarket nearer the end of the day when they do the bargains, you’ll often find fruit and vegetables are suddenly slashed in price because they’re going to go off.
“Or, if you’re using lemon in a dish like you’d use the lemon juice for a dish your making, the actual shell of the lemon you’ve got left you can use in your cleaning.
“I’m not saying buy loads of lemons. If you use lemons in your everyday, you have lemon water, lemon tea etc, there’s still enough lemon left to do some cleaning with.”
